Every once in a while I come across a uniquely gifted practitioner or individual, and their work changes my life.
Eric Meyers, my guest on today’s podcast, is one such human being.
Eric is an evolutionary astrologer with two psychology degrees, and he doesn’t offer “readings” - he offers compassionate, nonjudgmental and extremely intuitive insights into your soul’s curriculum this incarnation, according to the configuration of the planets at the time of your birth.
He sees astrology through a transpersonal framework that centers each of us as individuals within a relational field called the cosmos, which includes everything from the planets, to the earth and all living creatures, and, of course, to each other as human beings. This means that his astrological insights into charts aren’t all about “me, me me” but rather, our role as unique souls within the collective fabric of human and planetary evolution.
When I found Eric in early 2014, I had just been thrust into the depths of a dark and painful well of unhealed childhood traumas.
Some of you know this story, but if you’re new here, this is a “headline” of what happened: a man I had trusted with my heart betrayed me in a way that very nearly sent me into a psychotic break. Instead of going insane (which felt entirely possible), my psyche broke OPEN through the honest admission of deeply buried truths.
One of those truths was that I had a long history of self betrayal; and I was made acutely aware of just how dangerous I had become to my own well being within the context of dating and relationships as a result.
What happened in the moments after the near psychotic break is a story I only tell people in person, but the following morning I found myself experiencing a panic attack that ended up lasting 6 whole weeks (to hear more about this story, head to the P.S. section).
By this time in my life I called myself a pain advocate; and so I wasn’t going to run away.
Instead, I followed the advice of my favorite poet - Rainer Maria Rilke:
“God speaks to each of us as he makes us,
then walks with us silently out of the night.
These are the words we dimly hear:
You, sent out beyond your recall,
go to the limits of your longing.
Embody me.
Flare up like a flame
and make big shadows I can move in.
Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
Don’t let yourself lose me.
Nearby is the country they call life.
You will know it by its seriousness.
Give me your hand.”

A week later I had my first consultation with Eric.
Knowing absolutely nothing about me (we had never met before), the first thing he said when we began our session was:
“I’ve seen thousands of charts over the years, and yours is one of the most traumatized I’ve ever seen.”
Rather than feeling offended or disturbed, his declaration was a life raft; it was exactly the kind of confirmation I needed at that precise moment.
We spent the next two hours going over everything else in my chart, and I could feel my metaphorical feet touching solid ground for the first time in twenty years. Eric’s keen insights helped orient me in an empowered way to my spiritual curriculum this lifetime. In conjunction with the challenges present in my natal chart, there were many opportunities and positive aspects, of course (like all of us).
This consultation with Eric played a pivotal role in my ability to embrace “what is.”
During one of the most challenging periods of my life, this quirky and humble human being showed up, extended a life raft I didn’t know I needed, and gave me a map and compass with which I could navigate the mysterious terrain of “Earth School” with more self compassion, consciousness and devotion to my soul’s evolutionary path.
After that first consultation in 2014, I bought sessions for both of my parents, for a few friends on their birthdays, for partners, and our combined charts; and I’ve sought his guidance with periodic consultations to see what the planet’s are saying about my life’s unfolding epochs (including one last year that inspired me to move back to Colorado).
Many people in my world have benefited from Eric’s wisdom, and I’m thrilled to share a glimpse of his genius with you today.

P.S. After the six week panic attack, I was a transformed human being.
Suddenly, I was no longer the shy introvert I thought I was for 20 years. The chronic fatigue that was my 24/7 reality gave way to an almost inexhaustible well of energy, vitality and creative life force. Even my voice changed!
I became unrecognizable to myself in so many wonderful ways, reclaiming the natural elements of my soul and spirit that had been present in me as a very young girl: extrovert, adventurer, risk taker, social butterfly, entrepreneur, creative disruptor…
Regarding the 6 week panic attack:
My body was releasing an enormous amount of terror and helplessness that had been lodged there as a child, when I was far too young to act on those feelings in an adult manner to protect myself. When certain violating events occurred in my childhood, all those feelings got suppressed. Unconscious wisdom took over and “programs” were installed to automate survival.
Where do feelings go when they are suppressed or depressed?
They go down.
They go in.
Into the body.
Lying dormant in my body, terror and helplessness had been waiting for the opportunity (and my readiness) to be released.
Without knowing how long it would last (maybe forever? I had no idea), I simply allowed my body to have its experience without any interference.
While I was barely able to function, I wasn’t idle during this time of terror.
After canceling all but a select few clients who knew me really well and who I could be honest with about what I was going through, I spent as much time as my nervous system allowed, seeking counsel from wise people like Eric.
In the end, those feelings of terror and panic lasted six weeks…and today I am so very grateful to my past self for allowing that painful episode to have its full expression so I could be FREED to move on with my life.
Bodies are so wise.
What they do FOR us is incredible.
We could become wise, too, if we made the human organism our teacher.
