Dear friends,
I’m writing you today from my new online hub on Substack: The Human Freedom Project.
A few years ago “the human freedom project” came strongly into my mind, and these four little words would not leave me alone. I had no idea what “the human freedom project” was supposed to be; all I knew was that freedom has been an obsession - and my chosen field of study - since my early twenties (long before I heard about fascia, or started stepping on people to help them break free of survival programs like chronic pain).
During my 10+ years in private practice, I had the immense honor of guiding thousands of clients through the cathartic process of facing one of modern humanity’s worst fears: feeling pain. This taught me that fear of pain is really a fear of death, the loss of a cherished self identity, and a fear of freedom all wrapped in one. My private practice in Boulder, Colorado became a living lab for the study of human freedom, and that word - HUMAN - is key. Modern science likes to lump mammals into one parent category for the purposes of scientific exploration. For example, most neuroscience data on “the” nervous system - as if there is only one nervous system to be studied when it comes to mammals - emerges primarily from experiments performed on rats, mice and monkeys, who have been taken out of their natural environments and subjected to often horrifying treatment, all in the name of studying “the” nervous system; as if what happens inside a mouse’s brain and body is the same as a monkey or a man. But we are not mice or rats or monkeys; we are HUMAN.
Logical fallacies abound within modern science, which I plan to illuminate here at The Human Freedom Project while pointing us towards a new way of conducting science - as citizen scientists - that actually matches reality. Scientific institutions rarely bother to study the living human being - as we are in our natural environments - which requires totally different modes of thinking, theory formulation and testing processes than traditional science. Not to mention, it is my conviction that we are not merely the product of material nature - essentially, animals - but also the product of a spiritual world, made of soul and spirit as much as “body.”
Increasingly, it has become clear that humanity stands at a pivotal crossroads. All of us - individually - have already begun making choices that will determine whether or not we will devolve into a hybrid human-animal (as material science has categorized us), merge with A.I. as an alternative hybrid, or hold onto our humanity and evolve in accordance with our divine spiritual nature.
Our mission with The Human Freedom Project is to create a world in which all human beings may come to regard each other as equally worthy of individual freedom of thought, creative self expression and moral will; a world befitting true human dignity.
This newsletter serves as an introduction to this new platform (and what my emails will look like if you’re reading this in your inbox). I’d like to “show you around” and then give you an idea of what to expect from me each week.
Take a look around!
Read the official “About” page for The Human Freedom Project by CLICKING HERE.
There is a small archive of past newsletters that you can read, like a series called “Liberating Consciousness From the Body,” or a more recent series about the death of my father, and how we found healing together in a most unexpected and beautiful way during the last four months of his life.
Another - “Stress Calls Potential Into Play” - is a short must read for anyone interested in cultivating freedom, and features a guiding principle that I plan to use in all of my teachings from now on. This concept - stress calls human potential into play - will feature heavily inside the new Kinetix Academy (it’s not open yet, but you can get on the wait list), as well as the new in person events we are planning.
One of the most exciting aspects of this new platform is the blog-like nature of these newsletters with comment sections underneath, which will allow us to engage in meaningful dialog about these important concepts.
What can you expect moving forward? Keep reading 😊
The Human Freedom Project will consistently ask - and attempt to answer - these critical questions:
What is the human being?
What is (human) freedom, and how do we attain it?
The first is critical because there is no hope of developing human freedom without a true understanding of the whole human organism. Additionally, there can be no hope of developing root cause solutions for anything pertaining to human beings - whether chronic pain, physical illness, trauma, poverty or culture wars - without this same understanding.
The second, because we need something to aim towards.
One of the first new articles I plan to write for you on this platform is about the difference between seeking “freedom from” (deliverance) and “the freedom to” (a creative act of spiritual will). If we’re seeking freedom, it naturally means that we feel oppressed in some way.
Humanity manifests its creative spiritual will in evolutionary phases as the human spirit struggles through various constraints (which change, according to the age or era of history) towards its highest potential. These constraints are necessary for the development of human freedom, because without them our freedom would be meaningless.
We become more free by grappling with the five primary constraints of our age:
the body
relationships and social life
money and economics
environments, natural and unnatural
the state
Nearly all human beings alive today are struggling with some form of pain, whether chronic physical pain or disease, trauma, anxiety and mental health issues, economic hardship or relationship conflicts; meanwhile, all of us are confronted by rapidly evolving issues of social ethics and governments encroaching on all aspects of life that involve matters of individual conscience.
Rather than fight these oppressive forces (which only serves to strengthen their hold on us), our goal with the Human Freedom Project is to lean fully into these constraints as opportunities to call our highest potential into play.
With written articles and a soon to launch podcast, we wish to illuminate the creative spiritual potential available to those of us who choose to confront these oppressive forces with curiosity, courage and moral will in order to create a world worthy of true human dignity.
The Human Freedom Project has as its primary mission a true understanding of the physical and spiritual human organism. Every constraint and oppressive force necessitates that we develop physical and spiritual knowledge of ourselves, our human (social) world, and our creations.
Since human beings created governments and money, medicine and social customs, and since we also severely impact our planetary environment in countless ways that we know contribute to physical and psychological dis-ease of all kinds, it is our conviction that in order to solve the most pressing issues facing humanity today, we must do so from a place of understanding ourselves - body, soul and spirit.
While I will write about our individual and collective relationships to the 5 primary constraints by focusing on one specific issue at a time (such as the true root causes of pain, emotional trauma and its impact on the body, or the outsourcing of authority to governments that use legislation to regulate healthcare, medicine, justice etc), my mission within the Human Freedom Project is to illuminate the inseparable and interpenetrating nature of these 5 dynamic and evolving forces.
When the podcast launches, the video episodes will be shared on this new platform with a written commentary from me, and my hope is that we can engage in meaningful dialog and, at times, open (friendly) debate.
I’m glad you’re here!
Together, we can build a more equitable, free and dignified world. Tell a few friends if you like what you discover here.
Now, please say hello in the comments section! I’m so excited to finally have a place where we can talk to each other openly.
With love,
Elisha
P.S. The “we” behind The Human Freedom Project includes myself (duh!) and Stefan, my best friend and business collaborator. He has been with me, behind the scenes, in all of my online (and offline) adventures since 2018. Many of you know him. Some of you don’t. You’ll be seeing more of Stefan around here (especially when we launch the paid subscriber option here on Substack, which will include the chance to meet together regularly on Zoom). My roles here include writer, scientist, thinker/philosopher, podcast host and teacher of Kinetix. Stefan’s roles include truth seeker, philosopher, video and audio editor, online systems manager and visionary.
This is awesome - I love the breadth that you are trying to tackle. I have to ask, are you aware of Brain Energy (book by psychiatrist Chris Palmer) - I ask because I think he could be an amazing ally for you. I have a connection to him, if it would be useful (I am not selling anything and am very interested in helping on a volunteer basis - I equate human freedom with self-reliance, which includes healing one's body, healing one's mind, healing one's local environment, and healing the globe). If you're open to volunteers, please let me know!
Sounds REMARKABLE Elisha…congrats and kudos for all your learning — head wise and experientially (sensitive feet included)?— this evolution you share on so many levels over the years!! Very appreciated!
